Macomb Audubon Society's participation in the 106th Annual Christmas Bird Count was on Dec. 17, 2005 with 35 people in the field and another 7 at feeders. The weather was partly cloudy with 6-8 inches of snow on the ground. We managed to see 60 species plus one count week species, totaling 14,728 birds. We added 3 species that are new to this count, Golden Eagle, Fox Sparrow and Rusty Blackbird. New high for 7 species, Cooper's Hawk, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Horned Lark, Song, White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows and Dark-eyed Junco.

We would like to thank all of the participants and a big thank you to the ladies who came in early to make sure we had hot drinks and to set up the tally room. Thank you also to all of the people who contributed soups, chili and various snacks. We would also like to give a great big thank you to Rick Campbell and the Stony Creek Nature Center for hosting the tally. This year's count will be on Dec. 16, 2006. Barb Baldinger and I will be switching roles. She will be the new compiler and I will be the co-compiler. Please mark your calendar now and plan to help out.

Thanks again,
